Water, Water, Everywhere

Espresso Creme Brulee

I’ve been following my no eating  rules (mostly) for 12 days now and I weigh only three pounds less than when I started. I don’t believe I’ve ever tried to go on a diet before and it is both easier and harder than I thought it would be. I don’t think it about it most of the time, but I do really enjoy food. I have a year’s worth of blogging to prove it.

My main defense has been to drink a glass of water any time I am tempted to eat something between meals. Based purely on my number of trips to the bathroom I would say that I crave snacks quite often.

Creme Brulee infused with Espresso and a busy Saturday were my downfalls. I’ve been doing well not snacking between meals and not eating before 8 o’clock. In the last week I’ve resisted donuts, cookies (and cookie dough), ice cream, and my real weakness – a bowl of sugary cereal at midnight. I even avoided having popcorn at the movie Max and I went to yesterday. What I didn’t avoid was eating lunch out at Sbarro’s Pizza before the movie started. We only had a half an hour between activities yesterday and I didn’t even think about my “no eating lunch out” rule until later in the day. I really pictured that rule just for work days, but Sbarro’s pizza probably wasn’t the healthiest lunch choice.

The creme brulee was not a mistake,  it was a choice. I went out to eat at Cafe 128 on Friday with Kira and some friends and I decided ahead of time that I wasn’t going to let my No Eating interfere with enjoying this meal. We had decently early reservations (6pm) so I thought it might be a moot point, but when we ordered dessert at 5 minutes to 8 I knew I would be breaking my biggest no eating rule. The rich sweet creme brulee mixed perfectly with the bitter espresso flavor. It was heavenly.

the hell of it is, every minute i’m not eating chocolate or cookies i feel like i should be LOSING weight, because the opposite of that is true: every minute that I AM eating chocolate or cookies i’m gaining weight.

    life isn’t fair.

three pounds is a very very very good start. congratulations.
