Some Things Wicked This Way Come

November 2, 2011

Any day now I am expecting a chapeau’d feline to deliver a big red box to my front door with two Things in it. You will like these two Things. These Things will not bite you. They want to have fun.

OK, maybe they will be delivered by the mail carrier and in an envelope, but I still think you will like them.

Many moons ago Leanne Shirtliffe of Ironic Mom announced Thing 1 & Thing 2’s Excellent Adventure. I’ll let you read about their history over at her blog, but she has these two little things and has started them on a not so bogus journey around the world. It all started with a trip to Hollywood where I think the fame went to their thingy heads. Once they got back to Calgary (did I mention Leanne was from Canada, our neighbors to the North?) they must have pined for glamorous adventure so Leanne sent them to Knoxville, Tennessee…wait, what?

So far they have stayed inside the United States and I think Leanne has been choosing destinations based on the caliber of the blogger’s writing and not any wishes of said Things. At least that is what I thought until I somehow got picked to be one of the destinations. Now I am pretty sure she is drawing names out of a hat. (A hat from a cat?) Then again I did try to bribe her with some damn good peanutbutter, so maybe the process is more than random.

Leanne has great maps and photos tracking the Things’ adventure, but in case you haven’t been following them as closely as I have here is a quick summary of their travels:

  • They did start in Tennessee where they got to Meet the Buttrams. I am not certain, but I may have found Leanne’s blog from reading Meet the Buttrams. I know I have been following Meet the Buttrams a little longer. I first read this post (not sure how I ended up there, but I was hooked) and I have lurked there ever since.
  • Stop 2 was West Virginia where K.B Owen, mystery writer took them zip lining. (How am I going to top zip lining?)
  • Next they appeared in Maryland where Thoughts Appear’s Blog took them to the zoo.
  • Stop 4 on their Adventure took them to Joplin, Missouri. They were welcomed by Amy Stevens who showed them her Life in the Trenches and took some heart wrenching photos of the Things touring a city mostly recovered from the spring tornado.
  • After Missouri Thing 1 and Thing 2 resurfaced in Georgia. You can read all about their time in the south at The Glam Mom’s Guide.
  • And most recently they traveled to the Bay Area where they had some moments with Am I a Funny Girl?  She took them out for a night on the town and they got to be part of some “top secret and confidential” meetings in the technology realm, hang with a wookie, and found out how much Klout they had.
There has been some discussion of how unfair it is to send Thing 1 and Thing 2 from the endless summer of California to the frozen tundra of Minnesota, but I think they will be alright. They are from the Great White north after all. Also, we are having a mild autumn and as long as they arrive soon it should stay above freezing.
I am very excited to get to host the Things and I am even more excited to get a chance to become a part of this community of writers. In addition to Ironic Mom Leanne is a third of a blog called Word Bitches, which means she takes this writing thing seriously. My blog is admittedly a little gimmicky and writing every day means that I don’t always have time or energy to care about quality control. I will try to do the Things justice and after today I should have some pictures to help distract pepole from my typos.
Dr. Seuss Quote of the Day:
You will see something new.
Two things. And I call them
Thing One and Thing Two.

How fun! I think I’ll have to bookmark this one to investigate some of these other bloggers when I can find some spare time.

is this sort of like flat stanley? i hosted a flat stanley a year or two back. he was from Savannah, Georgia, and he survived the frigid north just fine.

You are not the first to compare to Flat Stanley, but I had never heard of that project until I got involved with this one. I remember the story from when I was a kid, but I didn’t know about people mailing them around the country.

They might catch a cold with the weather change, but it’ll just make them stronger. Can’t wait to hear about their adventures with you!

What a fab recap. And you know what? I’m originally from Manitoba so I’ve actually been to Minnesota…

And the title of this post is all kinds of awesome!
