Eat Your Heart Out Stephen King

October 14, 2011

I have heard it said that Stephen King could publish his grocery list and it would become a best seller. Which I suppose is some sort of commentary on the reading public or maybe that his grocery list would be very interesting. It may in fact include hearts that would be eaten. I don’t know. Either way I figure if it is good enough for Mr. King It is good enough for me. I present you with my latest top 10 list.

Top 10 Items I bought at the Grocery Store Today for Under $18.00

10. Beans (OMG did you know how cheap a bag of kidney beans is? You get enough for a meal and a half for a family of five for less than a dollar.)

9. Rice – Rice, Rice Baby. (Which even though it was really cheap it was actually kind of a splurge because we have rice, but I wanted this kind of rice to put in my red beans and rice.

8. Chunk Light Tuna – Sorry Charlie.

7. Split Top Wheat Bread – I have nothing funny to say about bread. We made Toast and Toast is good.

6. Bologna Meat (I wasn’t aware until today that people other the Oscar Meyer even made bologna. I wonder what its first name is if it isn’t O S C A R?)

5. Eggs – Incredible AND Edible!

4. An Onion and a Bell Pepper (..walk into a bar, the onion says to the pepper, “You’re not very hot.” and the pepper says “You’re going to make me cry.”    Thank You, Thank you, I’ll be here all week for your produce related humor.)

3. Yogurt – You know for when an ex-Spy drops by and is hungry.

2.Canned Corned Beef Hash (This was the single most expensive item I bought today. Even in its canned form meat is the real cost killer for groceries. And yet it was probably the biggest symbolic sacrifice because after having real Corned Beef Hash Kira and I swore we would never go back to the canned variety. The salty, delicious, canned variety.)

And to prove I am not entirely ruthless the number one thing I bought at the grocery store today was

1. Devils Food Snack Cakes…umm..for the kids. (Stop judging me, they were on sale.)

Hash and Eggs for dinner. The bacon was something we already had in the house.

Weekly Grocery Total so far: $23.65

Stephen King is so overrated! I’m sure he feels the same!
    Great post!

I love corned beef hash. Everyone should have breakfast for dinner, at least once a month, if not more often.

Not sure what you are talking about. The bacon was perfect.

I was just going to comment on how perfectly cooked that bacon looks! If it droops when you pick it up, it ain’t done enough. I want it so crisp that it almost cuts my mouth. Good bacon hurts. But it’s worth it.
