Half Done with Fried Oatmeal

In preparation for making fried oatmeal tomorrow I made The Hell’s Kitchen Oatmeal tonight. If you’ve ever been to the restaurant you know that they use a mix of steel cut oats with rolled oats. You can add steel cut oats to the list of items I would never have purchased if it wasn’t for Mitch Omer.  Even though I had eaten dinner I had to try a small bowl and it was pretty good. Once I added some of the homemade syrup it was delicious. You boil the oats in whole milk so the directions say to create a double boiler, which made for slow cooking, but it did keep the milk from scalding.

By the end the bowl was firmly stuck in the pot and I was a little concerned it was going to stay that way. However, after the metal bowl and pot cooled down it came right out. Gotta love science.

I am also working on a new batch of sauerkraut. My plan is to have some incredible hotdogs with every condiment imaginable. If it doesn’t work out hotdogs are still hotdogs without sauerkraut.

    please tell me that mitch doesn’t have you somehow combining the sauerkraut and the oatmeal….

      Somewhere, someone in the world is eating oatmeal with sauerkraut. Probably in Germany. Maybe Pennsylvania.

        No sauerkraut…SCRAPPLE, fried oatmeal. and syrup!
