Lighthouse of Accessandria

January 4, 2011

I have spent more time planning meals in the last week than I care to admit. I have a Google calendar filled in with meals until the middle of March and even have a meal planned out as far as May. I don’t think I realized how much this would consume me, but I have been thinking about this almost non-stop since I committed to doing it. To prove how obsessed I am I created a Microsoft Access database to manage the  recipes better.  I can now see at a glance that I have 150 recipes left, that there are 65 sub-recipes (recipes that are part of another recipe) left to make, and that there are 85 recipes left to make that are not part of another recipe. Of those 85 there are 52 recipes that I consider to be entrées and 33 that are sides, sauces, dessert, or breakfast. When I counted the recipes left I initially was worried that I would have to up my game a little. Right now I am making about one major recipe a week and it usually has 1 or 2 sub-recipes as a part of it. I never dreamed that 65 of the remaining recipes would be sub-recipes and even then it looked like I needed to make 85 more master recipes. Given that I only have 50 weeks left that was  definitely more than one a week. 52 entrées I think I can handle. I’ll have to double up at some point, but maybe I will make two kinds of Hollandaise for a single meal.

Mike & Mitch Project Query of the Day:
SELECT recipeName FROM DamnGoodRecipe WHERE id not in (select ingredientID from damngoodingredient) and made = false and entree = true

And if both trains leave at the same time, what time will they get there?

This entry didn’t come close to making me hungry!

Don’t worry tonight I actually have a recipe to make. Not sure how hungry it will make you.

I’m not sure that query makes sense… or that you don’t need to double up a little… cooking twice a week wouldn’t be so bad, would it? 🙂
